Kurzfassung:
To reduce the risk of critical incidents at major events, improved planning methods are already applied in advance of such events. Despite extensive pre-event planning and well-developed security concepts, the complexity of such mass Events hinders taking into account all eventualities. In order to take appropriate measures in emergency situations, security officers need a comprehensive overview of the current situation. The security research project EN MASSE investigated a flexible "Crowd Monitoring System" which aims at increasing the security at major events. Applying complementary sensor technologies in combination with pedestrian flow simulations enables objective assessments of passenger flows at major events with a small number of sensors. The simulation-based short-term prediction, the optimized visualization and the interaction capabilities support early counteracting in case of a crisis situation, thus providing an improved decision support for security officers.
